Purses and Bags

No. 5213 c. 1930s Needle Point Bag: The lady I bought this from said her mother made it in the 1930s - the style and patterns used certainly back this up. It has been beautifully hand stitched in autumn toned cotton threads with flowers (in a not quite petit point but is not a gros point – I would probably just say needlepoint) but has a lovely petit point detail on the front panel of two fantastical birds. It is in lovely clean condition (no musty smell) with a shot brown lining that also appears to have been used as an insertion piping on the side panel which is also hand stitched. The clasp is a machine engraved silver tone with an interesting snake chain handle. The background has been shaded from cream to mushroom. It looks a bit lopsided but that is my tissue paper stuffing technique - the bag is fine. Approximately 18cm at widest point. Price: $195.00.
