No. 2189 c. 1900/1920s Boxed Set of Silver Sewing Tools: Probably German, this set has four original silver handled tools with engine turned decoration - a seam knife, stiletto, fine crochet hook and needlecase. All the tools are in excellent condition and have been tested at 800 silver (no hallmarks). I belive the thimble is also original or at the very least contemporary with the other tools. It has a wavy engine turned design around the band and carries an indistinct German 800 silver mark. The stone top is probably carnelian. It has been used but is in very good condition with no holes and is in round. The scissors are a replacement and are plain chrome - they do not fit snugly into the recess. A hatpin is in the place of what once would have been a silver matching bodkin. The box is dark red leatherette and is in very good condition but the clasp has been broken off at some point. It measures 13 x 19cm. Price: $595.00.
No. 2187 c.1910 Boxed Set Silver Scissors and Thimble - Germany: The scissors were made by the Hermann Bauer Company in Gmund, South Germany. Their maker's mark is on the scissor arms plus the German "800" silver mark. The points are tight and undamaged and they cut well. The bows have a lovely shape and appear to be hollow. The thimble is hallmarked "800" and "G" for the German silversmith Greiff. It has plain knurling and a double rimmed band. The box is cardboard and covered in a dark brown paper with a gold spot motif and a mock velvet interior. The push button clasp works well. All pieces are in excellent undamaged condition. The scissors are 10cm long. Price: $495.00.
